I tend to
get some of the same questions about my
writing.
I've answered a couple of them
here.
Q:
Do you write web and
online projects?
A: I
have since 1994, when I
was part of the creative team that put the second bank in the entire country
onto the web.
In 1999 I was the
Director of Website
Development for an internet start-up.
In 2000 I worked on
Steven King's internet
publishing debut. Wrote
the online advertising
campaign promoting what became the world's first
mass-market electronic book, Riding The Bullet.
This campaign was so successful that on the day it
launched, more than 400,000 people tried to download and
pay for the book at once, causing the host server to crash.
I worked at two digital advertising agencies in Boston:
Holland Mark's digital/direct group in 2001 and
Directech/Emerge in 2003.
Through the years I've written
and directed scores of websites, microsites, landing
pages, integrated online campaigns, copy for social feeds
and mobile communications.
And I remain current with digital communications strategies
and tactics that serve the growing need for networked
storytelling, community building, real-time information,
fundraising, and advocacy.
Q:
Do you have a standard
rate for writing direct mail fundraising
copy?
A: I
usually charge $2,000 per
package, which includes copy for the carrier, 2--page letter,
reply device and
insert or thank you letter This price
includes a first draft, one major edit and one minor edit,
if needed.
Newsletters tend to run
about $500 per page.
These rates can go higher if there is a substantial amount
of research or interviews that I must conduct prior to
writing, and this time will be billable at my hourly rate
of $150.
And these rates can also go lower due to volume for those
clients who are looking to establish on-going, long-term
relationships.
